Electric Mobility Scooters
Electric scooters are a great alternative to manual wheelchairs which require the user to exert much more energy. These wheelchairs provide greater freedom without the need for supervision or assistance. By simply pressing a button or turning a handle a person can control their vehicle's speed and directional movement with ease.
These scooters come in different sizes, and with different power capabilities. Most have three or four wheels to give the right amount of stability. Four wheels is generally the best choice for those traveling outdoors, and three wheels makes it easy for getting around indoors, as well as for transporting. The smaller scooters often fold up for easy storage. However, they do tend to have some disadvantages such as smaller wheels and less battery life. Both large and small scooters usually have customizable and replaceable parts such as tires, arm rests, and baskets. They generally have weight limits of somewhere from two hundred to three hundred pounds.
When operating an electric scooter, it is important to always exercise the body as much as possible to ensure that it is healthy. Electric wheelchairs are great but they do sacrifice the exercise users may receive while using manually controlled chairs. When shopping for a scooter, be sure to do enough research on the models you are interested in, and check with your medical provider to see if they cover things like scooters. Make sure the one you choose is compatible with your body weight as well as the terrain you plan on traveling on.
